The building measures 200 by 130 meters, but the courtyard alone has a size of 1.3 hectares. The Federal Fortress Ulm was built in the 19th century as a major fortification system on both sides of the Danube by the German Confederation and was one of five „fede- ral fortresses“ to secure its former border against France.
